In a lovely state of preservation, this remarkable pair of George III, 21-inch, library globes by Cary have not seen the light of day since they were bought some twenty-seven years ago.
A couple of weeks back, just before the lock down here in the UK, we took them out of their storage boxes for the first time since 1993. The paper gores have been protected by the aged varnish and show what was known of the Heavens and Earth in 1800 and 1828 respectively, in all their glory.
The current owner has now decided the globes should be released and enjoyed and has asked us to find a new home for them. If you’ve ever wanted to own the world…and the heavens…then please do get in touch and we can send you further details. Overall dimensions are 122cm high (4ft), 71cm diameter (2ft 4in).
