Well, we have all been at Olympia for the best part of two weeks from the 3rd-13th June, and what a show it was!  David Lester, the new fair organiser, had pulled out all the stops and made the show, now styled as the London International Fine Art Fair (LIFAF to its friends!), look absolutely fabulous, and using his huge data base of international clients brought in an impressive number of buyers over the period.

We were the official Fair experts, and many of the guests took advantage of our presence in the centre of the main aisle to come and discuss objects with us, so we made a lot of new friends, as well as meeting some old ones.  We also were able to lay on four very successful corporate entertaining events during the Fair.

Next is the new Masterpiece Show, which starts with its full day preview on Wednesday this week.  This is a brand new event designed to replace and improve on the famous Grosvenor House Fair, and is being held in a huge tent just south of Sloane Square.  It looks fabulous from the outside and I, for one, am excited to find out what treasures are lurking inside!

Finally this week Southey's and Christies have their Impressionist and Modern sales on view.  I strongly recommend a walk through the galleries.  It is so much more fun than visiting a museum, and some of the works on view are definitely museum standard.  In the sale room you can walk right up to them, touch them even, and enjoy them at your leisure with out any jostling crowds.  At Sotheby's in particular there are some wonderful sketches and minor works by great masters, which are even vaguely affordable!  For example a little  iconic Degas sketch of a dancer lot 253, is gorgeous, and carries an estimate of 'only' £30-40000.  Not bad for one of the most recognisable names in art history!

Do give us a call if you would like to talk about any art or antiques related topics!
