The Olympia Fine Art & Antiques Fair, 8th-14th November

The last major art and antiques fair of the year opened at the Olympia exhibition halls in London last night and the vibe was considerably more upbeat than it has been for some time. Despite the crowds of people sipping champagne and rubbing shoulders with Renee Zelwigger there was a great deal of business being done! It was quite possibly the best opening night of an Olympia fair for some years. This is really a combination of several factors - confidence creeping back into the buying public, a good selection of items on display and, most importantly, some enticing prices. Dealers have woken up to the fact that they just can't be as greedy as they have been in the past - if they want to do any business at all they need to encourage buyers with sensibly-priced well-chosen stock.

The fair runs until Sunday night and is open until 7 or 8 pm each evening. Tim and Daniel will be there throughout the week and would be delighted to show you around if you are able to drop in at any stage. There are some great pieces at the fair, but there are also some "canards morts" to be avoided at all costs!
