Call in the consultants
"Tim Corfield had been running an art consultancy for about a decade until last year, when he managed to lure Sotheby's expert Daniel Morris to join him. The two are now antique and fine art consultants, advising people on building a collection. While they will advise on what to buy, they will also carry out specific requests from clients. The firm was once asked to find paneling from one of the sister ships of the Titanic. In due course, Tim Corfield tracked down paneling from the Britannic, which was adorning the walls of the ballroom of an hotel in Scotland. It now resides in the interior of an Italian yacht."
Change of art tax incentives for investors
"...For people who lack specialist knowledge and are nervous of putting their money into antiques, a number of companies, often set up by former dealers or auction house specialists, offer an advisory service. Daniel Morris, a former director of Sotheby's, joined up with Tim Corfield, a consultant and former dealer, to form Corfield Morris, an independent antique and fine art advisory service. Requests from clients include a yacht owner wanting panelling from a sister ship of the Titanic for his boat."
